Red Tape, Power Saws, and Rescuing Resources: Where We Stand
We’ve had a big few weeks, and while not all of it has been sawdust and hands-on work, the behind-the-scenes progress is helping turn a good idea into a charity built to last.
We’re Officially Registered
We are proud to share that we are now officially registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
This is a major milestone. It means we are building the organisation on a foundation of accountability, transparency, and long-term impact.
We have also submitted our Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) application to the Australian Taxation Office. If approved, this will allow eligible supporters to make tax-deductible donations—helping us attract more support and put more resources back into the work that matters.
Rescuing Materials Before They Become Waste
We are not waiting for usable materials to end up in landfill. We are working to intercept them at the source.
We are currently in discussions with a prefabricated frame manufacturer about placing collection bins beside their saws. These bins would capture timber offcuts as they are created, before they become part of the waste stream. Instead of being discarded, those materials could be collected and redirected to the charity for reuse.
We are also speaking with a building-material supplier about installing a collection bin in their yard for reusable surplus materials. This may include timber, damaged packaging, broken items, and other materials that still have practical value.
To some businesses, these materials are a disposal cost. To us, they are resources with another life left in them.
The Kindling Pilot Is Taking Shape
Our kindling project is moving forward, with a new saw due to arrive in the coming days.
Before winter ends, we plan to produce a small pilot run of kindling bags. This will allow us to test the details before we scale:
The best packaging options
The most practical timber sizes
Pricing that works for customers and supports the charity
The best process for producing and storing stock
The goal is to learn quickly, improve the product, and move into larger production and stockpiling for next winter.
Every bag of kindling has the potential to create a double win: less usable timber sent to landfill, and a practical product that helps support a more sustainable charity model.
We’re Looking for Partners, Sponsors, and Ideas
We are building this charity through practical partnerships, and we are looking for people and businesses who want to be part of it.
Are you a supplier, manufacturer, builder, or business with materials that could be reused? If you are paying to dispose of timber offcuts, surplus stock, damaged goods, broken pallets, or other usable materials, let’s talk about how we can help each other. A collection bin could turn a waste problem into a community outcome.
Are you interested in sponsorship? We are ACNC registered, growing quickly, and preparing for a larger production push. If your business wants to support practical waste reduction, material reuse, and local community impact, we would love to discuss how we can work together.
Do you have an idea? We want to hear it. Whether it is a major partnership, a better way to package kindling, a possible supplier connection, or a small improvement we have not considered, please reach out.
Big ideas, small ideas, and everything in between—this charity will be stronger because people choose to help build it.
We are only getting started.
