About The Better Living Foundation

We turn waste into homes — and homes into better lives.

The Better Living Foundation was created from a simple belief: no usable building material should go to waste while someone in our community is living in an unsafe, inaccessible, or deteriorating home.

We exist to bridge the gap between surplus building materials and the people who need practical support the most. By rescuing quality materials that might otherwise end up in landfill, we give them a second life through essential home repairs, accessibility improvements, and community-focused projects.

Who We Are

We are a community-driven foundation made up of volunteers, local tradespeople, supporters, and sustainability-minded partners who believe practical help can change lives.

At the heart of our work is the idea that environmental responsibility and social good should go hand in hand. Every piece of timber, every donated fixture, and every reclaimed material has the potential to become something meaningful — a repaired step, a safer bathroom, a community bench, or a product that helps fund the next project.

What We Do

We collect and recover usable building materials from donations, site pickups, and surplus stock that would otherwise be discarded. These materials are then sorted and matched to where they can do the most good.

Some are used directly in home improvement projects for people in need. Others are repurposed into practical handmade products through our yard and workshop, helping generate funds for the items and services we cannot always source through donation.

Our work includes:

  • essential home repairs

  • accessibility improvements

  • reuse of reclaimed building materials

  • handmade products from donated stock

  • support for community spaces and organisations

How Our Model Works

Each home improvement project is assessed individually, and donated materials are collected and stored separately until the required items are available. Once the right materials are secured, the work can move forward safely and efficiently.

When we receive donated materials that are not needed for a current project, we repurpose or sell them through our yard. The funds raised help cover the essential gaps that donations do not always meet — things like screws, adhesives, fixings, urgent materials, or trade certifications required to complete works properly without leaving licensed tradespeople out of pocket.

This approach helps us reduce waste, stretch every donation further, and keep important projects moving.

More Than Repairs

While safer homes are at the centre of what we do, our work reaches further into the wider community.

We also support local sporting clubs, schools, and community organisations through donated or handmade items created from reclaimed materials. Over time, we hope to continue building learning pathways and practical opportunities that bring people together through purpose, skills, and shared community impact.

Why It Matters

Too many people are forced to put off essential repairs because they simply cannot afford them. At the same time, usable building materials are thrown away every day.

We believe there is a better way.

By bringing together donated materials, practical skills, and community support, we can create safer homes, reduce landfill, and build a stronger, more connected future — one project at a time.

Built on Community

The Better Living Foundation is built on collaboration. Our work is only possible because of the people and businesses who choose to donate materials, give their time, share their skills, and support the mission.

Whether you are a supplier, volunteer, trade professional, supporter, or someone simply following our story, you are part of helping us turn waste into worth.
